Dakgalbi is a Korean dish in which chicken breasts and chicken legs, the leanest parts of the chicken, are marinated in spicy seasoning and then grilled on a grill or stir-fried on a griddle with vegetables, sweet potatoes, rice cakes, and other ingredients.
The name of the dish is a proper noun, so in foreign languages it is written as “Dakgalbi”.
It originated in the late 1950s and early 1960s in a bar in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, where chicken ribs were marinated in spices and grilled over briquettes as a snack for drinking, and in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, where chicken flesh was marinated in red pepper paste and grilled over drumstick grills.
